Scott City Cross Country runs in Hugoton; Volleyball competes in Liberal

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a busy Saturday for Scott City Beaver athletics, as the Beaver Cross Country team headed to Hugoton for the Hugoton Invitational, and the volleyball squad participated in the Liberal Invitational.

At Hugoton, the cross country team faced their stiffest competition of the year. Participating against schools from three states, the Lady Beaver finished in second place as a team with 61 points, nine points behind Liberal. Individually, Makaela Stevens was fourth, Trella Davis finished 11th, Olivia Prieto 12th, Dulce Ayala 13th, Paige Winderlin 34th, Kylee Trout was 39th and Jade Wren finished in 41st place. As for the boys, they finished in third place behind Liberal and Hugoton with 89 points. Jess Drohman was the top runner for Scott City with a ninth place finish, followed by Dylan Hutchins in 12th, Conner LeBeau in 22nd, Drew Duff 24th, Seth Cardenas 27th, Irvin Lozano 34th, and Angel Rodriguez 39th. Scott City will be running at the Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence on Saturday.

The Lady Beaver Volleyball squad had a rough outing on Saturday in Liberal, going 0-4 in their pool. Scott City faced two league foes in their pool in Colby and Hugoton. Against Colby, it was a much different outcome from Thursday, as the Eagles took the Lady Beavers in two sets 25-12, 25-18. Against Hugoton, they fell in two sets 25-12 and 25-20, a two-set loss to Dodge City 25-23 and 25-14, and a three-set setback to Meade 25-16, 17-25, and 25-20. Scott City is 2-10 on the season and will host a dual with LaCrosse on Thursday evening. It will be Senior Night for the Lady Beavers.
