Darrel E. Wolfe, 91 died Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Kearny County Hosptial in Lakin, Kansas. He was born May 6, 1924 in Hoisington, Kansas. When he was 9 months old, Darrel was adopted by Hulsa B. & Edna (Woofter) Wolfe.
Darrel grew up in Phillipsburg, Kansas where he attended school. He served during WWII in the United State Navy from May of 1943 to March of 1946. After the service, Darrel returned to Phillipsburg. On March 7, 1947, Darrel married Laura A. Liester in Norton, Kansas. They lived in various places before moving to Lakin, Kansas in 1951. They have lived in Lakin since. Darrel began working for Kansas Nebraska Gas Company where he became head welder until 1967. Darrel started Wolfe Welding where he was contracted with Kansas Nebraska Gas Company where he worked in the construction of Compressor Stations. He retired in 1990. Darrel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Deerfield; a member of the American Legion Post #9 of Garden City; and the VFW of Phillipsburg. He enjoyed his cats, yardwork, and plants.
Survivors include a daughter Marilyn Wolfe of Deerfield, Kansas and a brother Earl Wolfe of Phillipsburg, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his wife Laura who died on January 10, 2003. He is also preceded in death by his parents; a son Terry L. Wolfe; and 2 brothers Dean Wolfe and Keath Wolfe.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Deerfield, Kansas with Rev. Doug Olson and Rev. Natalie Faust officiating. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army Reserve National Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guards. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas. The family requests memorials given to the First United Methodist Church of Deerfield or to the Kearny County Hospital Chapel Fund both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
