Red Demon Basketball Takes Show on the Road to Woodward

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Mixed results for the Dodge City basketball teams on Saturday against Junction City.  The girls forced 44 turnovers and won by 32 points.  The boys team held in tough, but fell 51-44.  Boys Coach Dennis Hamilton challenged his players this week to take their opening game loss and use it as motivation for tonight’s first road game at Woodward.

For Hamilton it comes down to his team taking better care of the ball.

Garrett Owen a talented guard who averaged 20 points per game and had 19 in last year’s 67-60 loss to the Red Demons at the Dodge City Fieldhouse is out with a knee injury.

The Lady Red Demons will also miss one of Woodward’s star players.  Hillary Hurst torched Dodge City for 21 points in last year’s 44-33 Woodward win.  Hurst will be sidelined after suffering a concussion in Tuesday night’s game with Ponca City.

However, if you did not know who was talking you swear that the same points of emphasis Coach Hamilton stress tonight are the same areas of importance for Coach Kelley Snodgrass.

Snodgrass is looking forward to seeing what her can team can accomplish playing away from home.

Last year in non-conference road games, Dodge City girls were 1-3.  Pre-game begins at 6:15.  Girls tip at 6:30 and the boys at 8.  The game can be heard on Z98 and westernkansasnews.com.
