Finney County, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue reports a 23 year old man threatening suicide Sunday night was shot in the leg while approaching an off duty sheriff’s deputy with a handgun as he responded to a call. Neighbors living on Eddie Road in the far northeast part of the county notified the deputy since he lives in the area. Other law enforcement received a separate call.
Upon arrival the off duty deputy parked his personal car and spotted Thomas Heily after he exited the residence. Eventually the deputy fired two shots striking Heily once. Heily was taken to St. Catherine Hospital and is listed in good condition. The deputy is on paid administrative leave while the Kansas Bureau of Investigation looks into the incident.
