Phyllis J. Quillen, 91, died January 13, 2016 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born on May 2, 1924 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Florence (Larson) England.

Phyllis was raised in Essex, Iowa and she graduated from Essex High School. Phyllis continued her education at Omaha Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1950, she married John Maher and they moved to Dodge City in 1953. John preceded her in death in 1969. On July 27, 1974, Phyllis married Bill Quillen in Manitu Springs, Colorado. He survives. Phyllis worked as a secretary at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dodge City and later as a secretary for the City of Dodge City. She loved to play cards, especially bridge.

She was a member of the Saint Cornelius Episcopal Church, Dodge City Country Club, and the PEO Chapter DZ all of Dodge City.

Phyllis survived by her husband Bill Quillen of Dodge City; one daughter-in-law Lila Maher of Mobile, Alabama; and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John Maher; and a son, Daniel Maher.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Katie Hargis presiding. Inurnment will follow at Scroggins Mausoleum in Dodge City. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
