Barbara Jean Allen Percival

Barbara Jean Allen Percival, 85, died March 1st 2016, in Garden City, Kansas. 

She was born January 7, 1931, in Garden City to Everett E and Verda B. Allen. She married Loren E. Percival and they had 6 children: Terry and Kelsey, Tim and Ann, Mike and Tracey, Mark and Karen Percival, and Tanya and Richard Heeke, and Foster Son Michael and Vanessa Graham . Surviving grandchildren include Aron, Trent, Megan, Cole, Ciara, Ridge, Ashley and 12 great grandchildren. Siblings, Curt and Becky Allen and Nadine Bliss.

Barbara lived a life of active service to the community volunteering as a Scout Leader and a mentor and teacher in Extension Homemaking Groups. She was instrumental to the organization of Sandhills Art Association where she also served as the 1st president, and was a foster parent for over 25 years. 

In 1978 Barbara graduated from St. Mary’s of the Plains College with her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. During this time, she worked as an AmeriCorps Vista Volunteer and helped start organizations such as Alanon and Family Crisis. 

Hobbies included painting (especially poppies and clowns) genealogy, cooking, quilting, and teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Her joy of living, her enthusiasm and love for all people from all walks of life are a part of her legacy. She always invited people to stay in her home and there was always room at the dinner table for anyone who needed a home cooked meal. Barbara always had an open heart and would listen and encourage others as she pointed them to God. 

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Visitation will be held form 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Price and Sons Funeral Home on Thursday. 

On Friday March 4th 2016, we will share in celebrating Barbara’s life at the First Christian Church at 10:00 a.m. A private family interment will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, suggested donations to Earth Justice and the Sierra Club in care of Price & Sons.
