Jennings: Roads, Children’s Program Could Suffer in Budget Cuts

Lakin, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The budget projections keep getting worse and worse for the state next year and additional cuts will likely be needed to offset the fall in revenue. One of the departments that has been forced to give is the Kansas Department of Transportation. State Representative Russ Jennings says there is not much more KDOT can pitch in.

To illustrate the point Jennings provides this metaphor.

In response KDOT has announced delays to projects including the 4 lane expressway from the Gray-Ford County line to Dodge City and for US 54 in Seward County.

Jennings is also shining the spotlight on a controversial proposal. The plan to use tobacco settlement money of 50 million dollars annually earmarked for the Children’s Initiative Fund and diverted the money to fix another problem.

Here is the danger.

The Russell Child Development Center in Garden City could be affected if legislators follow through.
