Rodney L. Calhoun, 66, died Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Calhoun Family ranch in Meade. 

He was born October 28, 1949 at Dodge City, the son of Albert and Lucille (Sappenfield) Calhoun. He was a lifetime area resident, a 1968 graduate of Dodge City High School and attended Dodge City Community College and Ft. Hays State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. He was a rancher, loving the history of the area and for many years operated a lawn care service. He was an avid sportsman and steward of the land. 

On November 6, 1976 he married Debora A. Irsik at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. 

Survivors include: his wife, Cimarron; 3 children, April Bailey and husband Neal, Fayette, Missouri, Amy Schlesener and husband Mike, Shawnee, Kansas and Andy Calhoun and wife Jess, Abilene, Kansas; 7 grandchildren, Samarah, Cecil, Silas and Elsie Bailey and Alex, Nate and Ella Schlesener. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. 

Memorial graveside services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Cimarron Cemetery with David Johnson officiating and military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and Funeral Honors for the State of Kansas. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from noon to 5:00 pm Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Shepherd’s Center in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 446, Cimarron, Kansas 67835.
