Rose M. Frizzell

Rose M. Frizzell, 93 died Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas. She was born March 30, 1923 in Rio Blanco, Colorado the daughter of Roy & Bessie (Johnson) Couey.
Rose grew up in Rifle, Colorado where she attended school. After graduating from high school in Rifle, Rose attended cosmetology school in Grand Junction, Colorado. During World War II, Rose served her country as a “Rosie The Riveter.” On November 14, 1949, she married Delbert Frizzell in Craig, Colorado. They moved to Garden City in 1953. Rose worked for 30 years as a cook at USD #457. She cooked at Buffalo Jones School, Jennie Wilson School and was head cook at Edith Scheuerman School. She retired in 1987. Rose later moved to Stockton, Kansas in 2013 and has lived in Stockton since. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City and a member of the Sagebrush Porcelain Artists. Her hobbies include china painting, portrait painting, art, flowers, cooking, and reading.
Survivors include two sons Delbert Wayne Frizzell of Nixa, Missouri and James Glenn Frizzell of Plainville, Kansas; a daughter Cheryl Unruh of Deerfield, Kansas; a step-son Garland Frizzell of Dayton, Ohio; two step-daughters Betty Sperry of Garden City and Peggy Sperry of Garden City; a brother Robert Couey of Medford, Oregon; 15 Grandchildren; 27 Great Grandchildren; 36 Great Great Grandchildren; and 4 Great Great Great Grandchildren. Rose is preceded in death by her husband Delbert who died on January 26, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her parents; 1 Great Grandson; 4 brothers Roy Couey, Earl Couey, Wilbur Couey, and Kenneth Couey; and 4 sisters Billie Starr, Mattyelyn Trusty, Helen Hudson, and Dorothy Hutton.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City with Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. There will be no calling hours. The family request memorials given to Garden City Community College Endowment to be used for an art scholarship in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
