Helen Marie Edwards

Helen Marie Edwards, 85, of Fort Dodge, Kansas, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 in Fort Dodge.

Helen (Parsons) Edwards was born in El Dorado, Kansas on April 28, 1931 to George Earl and Mildred Madeline (Lanier) Parsons. She went to high school at Latham High in Latham, Kansas and graduated in 1950. She married Allen Joe Edwards on June 12, 1950 in Leon, Kansas. Helen is a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Methodist Church in Satanta, Kansas and the White Shrine in Wichita, Kansas.

Helen and Joe lived in Leon, Kansas for the first few years of their life. They enjoyed dancing and would frequent dances on the weekends at Keighley, Kansas a few miles away. They both immensely enjoyed country and western music. Helen listened to all types of music but especially enjoyed listening to Patsy Cline. From Leon, they moved to Potwin, Kansas in 1955. Helen had a sizeable flower garden in Potwin. Roses were her favorite flower, she enjoyed growing them with iris, verbena, sweet williams, purple phlox, daffodils, tulips, and gladiolas. Helen was a licensed daycare provider for over 15 years. In 1964 they moved to Satanta, in 1964 where she continued to provide childcare. Joe and Helen continued to live in Satanta for several years after he retired before moving to Scott City, Ks in 1992. From Scott City, they moved to Colorado living in Colorado Springs and Divide until they moved to Fort Dodge, Ks in 2006.

Helen is survived by two sons Jerry and wife Marsha of Arvada, Colorado, Mark and wife Anita of Woodland Park, Colorado and five grand children Thomas Edwards of Garden City, Kansas, Kelley Edwards of Denver, Colorado, Heather Edwards of Longmont, Colorado, Amber Ament of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Nicholas Edwards of Woodland Park, Colorado.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, one brother James Harold Parsons, one sister F. Irene Tredway and her husband Allen Joe Edwards.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, June 3, 2016 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Rev. Dick Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Dodge. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
