Police Asking Safety Be Your Top Priority As School Begins

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) School is about to start either this week or next throughout Southwest Kansas.  That means a changeover from your summer routine.  Garden City Police Officer Lana Urteaga says the most important thing for young kids is they must be seen.

As for those who are new behind the wheel, GCPD Officer Pete De Leon wants teens to understand the responsibility when they get behind the wheel.

Last year was particularly bad for accidents between vehicles and motorists.  Officer Pete De Leon believes curbing this trend starts with following the law around school buses.

Here is what Officer De Leon wants to see police do in response.

Also be mindful to look for flashing lights which will tell you school zones are 20MPH.
