Scott City doubles team ends season on Friday

Winfield, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–With only 21 schools represented at the Class 4A State Tennis meet in Winfield on Friday, Scott City was included among the schools with an entry. Krystal Appel & Emma Price saw their season end, but not without a pair of wins.

In the first round, they faced the combination of Biship Miege’s Grace Wheeler & Grace Lang. Appel & Price fell in their first set 6-3, but turned around to win 6-3, forcing a tiebreaker, which they won 10-4 to advance to the round of 16.

Up next was the Buhler duo of Kendra Nachtigal & Michaela Esau. The Buhler team would win 6-1, 6-1, and eventually advancing to a semi-final on Saturday.

Both Appel & Price went to the backside of the bracket, they would take on Xzavea Wommack-Johnson & Jaryn Folk from Parsons, and would win 9-6, advancing to the next round, where they would face the Wamego doubles team of Ashley Faiola & Tessa Seeberger. The Wamego duo won 9-3, stopping Appel & Price one match short of a top 12 finish.

Krystal Appel & Emma Price finished their season at 27-7 on the season. Appel qualified for state a second consecutive season.
