Scott City volleyball wins a pair of matches Tuesday

Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a good Tuesday for the Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team, as they dominated their opponents in Cimarron Tuesday night. The Lady Beavers picked up a pair of sweeps over Wichita County 25-10, 25-10, and Syracuse 25-7, 25-5. They did not play Cimarron, due to the teams having too many points toward their schedule.

Against Wichita County, Scott City strung together two dominating sets, similar to the previous meeting on September 13. In the match, they recorded 17 kills, led by Emily Smith with six and Macy Berning with four. The Lady Beavers had 15 aces, as Tyler Vondracek had six and Brandi Shearmire added four. They also had 15 assists, with Taylor Goodman leading the way with nine.

In their final match of the day, Scott City faced Syracuse, whom they haven’t seen all year. The Lady Beavers had no let up, and coasted to the 25-7, 25-5 win, the fewest they have given up in a match in quite some time. Scott City recorded 18 kills, as Clarissa Ratzlaff led the way with seven and Macy Berning added five. Taylor Goodman had six aces, and Jalynn Habiger added five aces, as the Lady Beavers had a total of 19 aces against the Lady Bulldogs. Goodman added 10 assists and Brandi Shearmire added six assists in the win.

Scott City improves to 20-8 on the year. It’s the first time since 2012 that Scott City has hit the 20-win mark, when they won 22 matches that season.

Up next is the Great West Activities Conference tournament on Saturday in Ulysses. Scott City is seeded third, behind Holcomb and Ulysses. They will start off with a match against Colby at around 10, Ulysses at 12 pm, Goodland at 1 pm, Holcomb at 3, and Hugoton at approximately 4 pm.
