Darlow Victor Lampe

Darlow Victor Lampe, 82, died March 2, 2017 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on September 18, 1934 in Marienthal, the son of Henry G. and Minnie (Kuhl) Lampe. 

He served his country in the U.S. Army as Military Police at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. He was a retired Moorman Feed Salesman. For the last 17 years he was an active member of Dodge City Roundup and served as caretaker of Dodge City Roundup Rodeo Arena, which was his pride and joy.

On September 19, 1959, he married Patty Phillips, of Cimarron, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. Together they raised five children. His family was the light of his world.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church both of Spearville . He loved to tell stories, most of which were not true and he loved to hunt and fish.

Darlow is survived by his wife Patty of Dodge City; a daughter, Kerry and husband Rod Ackerman of Goodland; four sons, Kelly Lampe of Bucklin, Kent and wife Becky Lampe of Dodge City, Kurt and wife Nadine Lampe of Spearville, and Darlow Anthony (Tony) and wife Michelle Lampe of Spearville; and daughter-in-law, Judi Lampe; his 12 grandchildren, Brian Lampe and Elizabeth McKinney, Brandon Lampe and Cristina Vargas, Dawn and Scott Burke, Dustin Lampe and fiance Jessica Konrade, Justin Lampe and fiancé Krissy Pulkrabeck, Jory Lampe, Austin Lampe, Kyle Ackerman, Tarah Ackerman and fiance Jason Krayca, Caden and Megan Ackerman, Cory Lampe and Sierra Fabrizius, and Jessica and Greg Bradford; the light of his life, four great grandchildren, Hailey Burke, Scott Burke Jr., Addison Konrade-Shearer, and Cydney Lampe;the orneriest two brothers alive, Dwaine and wife Louise Lampe of Spearville and Leander and wife Cindy Lampe of Mustang Oklahoma; and one sister, Ganell Jacobs of Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Quentin (Bud) Lampe, Cletus Lampe, and Darrell (Boog) Lampe and four sisters, Beatrice (Beets) Frank, Mildred Schaffer, Ethel Rita Stein, and Frozine Greene.

Vigil service will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at the church on Monday March 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Rev. John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery with military rites by Howard Gotschall V.F.W. Post 1714 and KSARNG Military Honors. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City on Sunday March 5, 2017 from noon to 5:00 PM.
