KDHE Warns About Listeria in Popular Brand

(westernkansasnews.com) The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has put out an alert to consumers that a recall by Pinnacle Foods Inc. has been issued for Aunt Jemima frozen breakfast foods including pancakes, waffles and French toast slices because of a possible listeria contamination.

The recall was issued after Listeria monocytogenes was found in the production environment. All affected distributors, retail and food service customers are being notified.

At this point no illnesses have been linked to this recall. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weak immune systems. Healthy people might suffer short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Symptoms begin three to 70 days after consuming the bacteria.
