Final Legislative Coffee For 2017

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) On Saturday morning the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce held their final legislative coffee of 2017. On hand to discuss the conclusion of the legislative session were Senators John Doll and Bud Estes along with State Reps John Wheeler and Shannon Francis. It was no surprise that taxes and school funding were heavily discussed. Rep Wheeler of Garden City has confidence in the new school funding plan but has questions as well.

Wheeler felt his first legislative session was a success but did notice something odd about the session.

Another hot issue discussed was Medicaid expansion causing some debate over the new bill approved that will require abortion doctors to brief patients on what year they received their medical degree, whether they have malpractice insurance and if they have had any disciplinary action taken against them by the state’s board of healing arts.

The bill also requires the information to be provided on white paper, in black ink with 12 point Times New Roman font. The question was raised during the coffee of whether all doctors, not just abortion doctors, will have to provide this information in the future.
