Red Demon wrestling comes up short against Great Bend

Great Bend, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Despite a huge comeback Dodge City High School wrestling fell at Great Bend 40-35 Thursday night.

Dodge City fell behind 34-13 then came back with three straight pins at 195, 220 and 285 and got a decision at 106 to take a 35-34 lead. In the final match at 113 Drew Liles pinned Andrew Mariche to give Great Bend the 40-35 win.

Despite the loss coach Lars Lueders saw some good things.

“I thought this was the best we wrestled all year.  Some of our freshmen
really impressed and got some signature wins,” said Lueders, “before the Dual We thought we needed to get pins at 160 and 182 in order to win.  It shows how tough we wrestled when those two matches go the opposite way we thought and we were still in a position to get the team win.”
