GCHS swimming second at Salina Central

Salina, KS-Grace Schmidt is putting the rest of the state on notice.

Schmidt pushed her way to a state-qualifying time of 2:05 in the 200-yard freestyle; then won the 100 backstroke on a day where her team finished second behind champion Derby at the Salina Central Invite on Thursday.

Garden City finished with 451 points, and Derby had 505.

Kirstin Neff won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.80 while Emma Tull was second in the 200-yard individual medley.

State qualifiers: Tull (200-yard individual medley and 100-breaststroke); Schmidt (200-yard freestlye); 4×100 freestlye team (Kaitlyn Chappel, Schmidt, Neff and Emily Ortiz).
