Scott City boys 2nd, girls third, at the Russell Relays

Russell, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Friday’s track meet for the Scott City track teams not only finished up a three-meet schedule over the past week, but also matched them up against six other regional teams at the Russell Relays. While the mixing and matching continued, both teams had pretty good outings overall, as the boys narrowly finished second to Beloit, and the girls took home a third place finish.

Scott City will be at the GWAC Invitational in Goodland on Thursday. Originally, it was scheduled to be in Scott City this year. Due to the construction at Darner Field, it was moved to Goodland.

Boys
Beloit won the meet with 118 points, while Scott City had 114 and Phillipsburg had 87 points. It was another solid day for the relay teams, as they swept each race. The 4x100M Relay team of Brandon Winderlin, Nick Nowak, Jarret Jurgens and Jordan Horn won with a time of 43.18, which was their season best. In the 4x400M Relay, the team of Adrian Ruelas, Wyatt Hayes, Kaden Wren and Jurgens won with a time of 3:24.70, and the 4x800M Relay team of Ruelas, Sam Irwin, Jack Thomas and Hayes won the event with a time of 8:20.24.

Girls
It was a third place finish for the Lady Beaver track squad. TMP-Marian won the meet with 123 points, while Beloit was second with 108. Scott City finished with 82.5 points. Sophomore Emily Weathers helped lead the charge for the Lady Beavers, taking home the top finish in the 400M Run with a time of 1:01.39. She was also a part of the winning 4x400M and 4x800M Relay teams. The 4x400M Relay team of Dulce Ayala, Madison Shapland, Weathers and Emily Smith won the race with a time of 4:09.33, and the 4x800M Relay team of Ayala, Makaela Stevens, Piper Wasinger and Weathers won with a time of 10:13.80
