Scott City football continues summer grind with camp

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In less than 50 days, the 2019 football season will kick off for Scott City. This week, around 60 players participated in their team camp to prepare for the upcoming season.

This week, the players were able to learn the fundamentals, and get terminology down on their offensive sets, while beating the summer heat. While the Beavers lost a good nucleus of seniors that led them to a 10-1 record in 2018, Scott City does return a good chunk of key contributors that led them to their 32nd consecutive non-losing record.

It was the final week that coaches were allowed to have contact with the whole team, before they report to practice on August 19.

One thing new will take place before the season kicks off September 6. On August 29, Scott City will scrimmage Great Bend and Hoisington in Great Bend. This is the first season that this has been allowed. KSHSAA passed the jamboree proposal this past season. It will consist of 36 plays run by each team, with no special teams plays.

Summer weights will wrap up in early August.

Jim Turner will enter his fourth season as the head coach, and will have the same staff for a third straight year.
