Scott City hosts Holcomb in GWAC battle

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Over the last four seasons, Holcomb and Scott City have met up six times heading in to tonight’s 7 pm kickoff at Darner Field in Scott City. Both teams have won three games apiece, heading into the renewal of this GWAC rivalry.

Holcomb started off the 2019 season with a dominating 48-6 win over the Goodland Cowboys last Friday night at home. After leading 7-0, the Longhorns socred 28 points in the second quarter to blow the game open, taking advantage of short field. Holcomb would run up 288 yards of offense, with 217 coming on the ground. They were led by Kobe Hands who passed for 71 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 64 and a score. Kolby Johnson had two rushing touchdowns in the win. The Longhorn defense forced four turnovers and held the Cowboys to 99 yards of offense, including minus-17 rushing yards.

Scott City was able to survive 15 penalties and five turnovers in their 14-0 win over Hugoton last Friday night at Darner Field. The Beavers scoring drives were 95 and 96 yards in the second and fourth quarters respectively. Despite only having 14 points, Scott City finished with over 450 yards of offense, including 294 on the ground. Hunter Yager had 121 rushing yards and 111 receiving yards in the win, while Harrison King threw for 159 yards. The Beaver defense held the Eagles to 114 yards of offense with 111 coming in the air.

Scott City leads the series with Holcomb 15-4, and won 24-0 at Holcomb last year.

It is Military Appreciation Night at Darner Field, in a 7 pm kickoff.
