Scott City volleyball goes 5-2 to begin season

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team started off the 2019 season on a good note on Friday and Saturday. Friday, the Lady Beavers went to Oakley for a triangular, and then competed at the Hays High Invitational on Saturday. 

Over the weekend, they went 5-2, by sweeping Wallace County and Oakley on Friday, and going 3-2 and placing fifth at Hays on Saturday.

In Oakley, Scott City first matched up against Wallace County. The first two sets would go back and forth, as the Lady Beavers won the first set 28-26, and fell short to the Lady Wildcats 25-27. Scott City would dominate the third set with a 25-8 win. Against Oakley, the Lady Beavers would have things rolling, winning in two sets by scores of 25-9, 25-13.

On Saturday in Hays, Scott City would finish 1-2 in pool play. Their first match of the morning would be against Olathe West, and fell 25-22, 25-21. They would turn around and defeat Wheatland/Grinnell 25-14, 25-16, before falling to Hays 25-21, 21-25 and 25-17. In bracket play, they would defeat Bucklin 25-20, 27-25, and knock off Colby 25-19, 21-25, 25-15 to finish the day 3-2 and in fifth place.

Up next for the Lady Beavers will be their home opener against Ulysses on Tuesday, September 10.
