[Garden City, KS] Oct. 25, 2019 – Thanks to the efforts of students, staff, and community volunteers, donors have pledged over $47,000 in donations to the Garden City Community College Endowment Association during this year’s Phonathon.

“This year was the 40th anniversary of the Phonathon, and it was once again a success,” said Jeremy Gigot, director of the fundraising association. “For eight nights, we had student groups and college programs calling to raise money for student scholarships and each night we were met with a generous response from our donors.”

The annual fundraising event was held from from Oct. 7-17, 2019, inside the Beth Tedrow Student Center’s Endowment Room. Together, volunteers raised $47,062 in pledges over the two-week period, funds that will directly benefit GCCC students.

In addition to the Phonathon’s 40th anniversary, this year also marks GCCC’s centennial year. The community college was founded in 1919. In light of this year’s momentous anniversary, the Endowment Association’s annual theme is “For the Next Century,” signifying its long-term commitment to support GCCC students. In fact, funds generated by student groups during each night of the Phonathon are typically pledged toward and designated for the specific program or programs represented by those participants.

Gigot said his association is especially grateful for the continued support of United Wireless, who once again donated phones and airtime necessary to conduct the Phonathon.

“Without their support, Phonathon would not be possible,” he said. “We would also like to thank, Sonic Drive-Ins, Freddy’s Custard and Milligan Enterprises/Garden City Area McDonalds for donating the food and beverage coupons that we hand out to our student volunteers each night of Phonathon.”
