Scott City heads back out on the road to face Russell

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)—The Scott City Beaver football team will wrap up their longest road trip in 10 seasons on Friday night, as they return to district play, facing the Russell Broncos at Shaffer Field. Both teams enter the game on opposite ends of the win/loss column, as the Beavers are 4-0 on the year, while the Broncos are 0-4.

Scott City continued their strong defensive effort last Friday night, in a 27-7 win at Ulysses against the Tigers. The Beavers scored one touchdown in each quarter, and took a 14-7 lead into the break. They scored on their opening drive of the game, as well as their opening drive of the second half. Scott City finished with 351 yards, with 294 yards coming on the ground. Defensively, the Beavers held Ulysses to 106 yards of offense, with 96 coming through the air. While Scott City forced four turnovers, they turned the ball over three times, with one being returned for a touchdown. They have not allowed a touchdown on defense this season. 

Russell enters the game 0-4, after a 44-18 loss in their home opener to Concordia last Friday night. The Broncos scored the first points of the game before the Panthers rallied for 20 straight, and took a 20-12 halftime lead. All the second half scoring took place in the fourth quarter, as the Panthers rolled off 24 points and picked up the win. This year, the Broncos have averaged 16 points a game, while giving up 39. Offensively, they average 161 yards, with 128 coming on the ground, while surrendering 354 yards a contest. In those four losses, three of the teams are 4-0, while the last one is 2-2.

Scott City leads the all-time series 3-0, and won 56-7 at home last year.
