Scott City hosts Concordia in Regional battle

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Sixteen teams remain alive in Class 3A, and four of those teams are in District 8. Two of the teams will match up for a second time in three weeks, as Scott City hosts Concordia again in a 7 pm kickoff at Darner Field.

Concordia took out their frustrations from their loss in Scott City two weeks ago out on Hugoton last Friday night in a 43-18 win over the Eagles. It was the first win for the Panthers in the playoffs since 2014. They led 16-6 at the break before opening up in the second half. Three Panthers rushed for over 100 yards, as Wyatt Trost had 184 yards on 21 carries and four touchdowns, while Hunter Schroeder added 129 yards on 22 carries and two scores. In all, Concordia rushed for 422 yards and finished with 537 yards of offense. Defensively, the Panthers held Hugoton to 282 yards of offense, with 242 coming through the air. Concordia is in their 15th playoff appearance all time, and hold a 9-13 all time record in the playoffs. They won the Class 4A State Championship in 1999.

Scott City enters at 7-2 on the year, after a 35-18 win over the Holcomb Longhorns last Friday night in their playoff opener. The Beavers led 14-0 after the first quarter and 14-6 at the break. Holcomb would pull to within 21-18 early in the fourth, before Scott City added two touchdowns to pick up their third win in five tries against the Longhorns in the playoffs. Scott City put up 401 yards of offense, 298 on the ground, led by Hunter Yagers 175 yards and two scores. Defensively, the Beavers held Holcomb to 212 yards of offense, with 189 of those coming on passes. The Beavers improved to 51-20 all time in their 25th playoff appearnce.

Scott City leads the series 4-0, including the 31-0 win on October 25.

A Scott City win would have them hosting Cheney or traveling to Wichita Collegiate, and a Concordia win would have them hosting either Cheney or Wichita Collegiate in the Sectional round next Friday.

Kickoff at Darner Field is at 7 pm, with a 6:30 pm pregame on Mix 94.5. You can also listen online at westernkansasnews.com/mix94, on the KSKL App or on TuneIn Radio.
