Scott City’s Rumford signs with Barton Basketball

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Just a few months ago, Lyndi Rumford had planned on just being a student in college after her high school days. As the fall pushed through, those plans changed for the multi-sport athlete. After sending basketball film out and making a visit to Great Bend, Rumford knew where she was headed.

On Thursday, Rumford made it official in front of friends and teammates, signing her letter of intent to play basketball for the Barton Community College Cougars.

As a junior, she averaged 12.8 points and grabbed nearly six boards a contest, shooting 41% from the floor and 69% at the free throw line. Her efforts earned her a spot on the All-GWAC First Team. In her first game of the year last Friday, Rumford poured in 21 points on 9-15 shooting and had seven steals.

Rumford has played a role in Scott City’s three consecutive state tournament appearances, and has started 25 consecutive games.

Barton is coached by Alan Clark, who is in his fourth year coaching the Lady Cougars. This year, they are 6-7 overall, 2-2 in conference play.

In college, she plans on majoring in Nursing.
