GCHS Drama Department To Present Prodigal Son February 21 – 23

The Garden City High School Drama Department will present a new American drama by John Patrick Shanley called Prodigal Son on February 21st and 22nd at 7:00 p.m. and February 23rd at 2:30 p.m. in the GCHS Auditorium, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.  Tickets prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students. 

This performance will be presented in the round with all seating onstage.  Seating is limited to 100 people per performance and there will be no admission for latecomers, so plan on arriving at the theater early.  The show runs 90 minutes with no intermission, and patrons should be expected to stay in their seats during the entire run of the show.

Adult tickets may be purchased at www.gchsdrama.booktix.com or early bird tickets may be purchased from Alice Hilt by contacting her at ahilt@gckschools.com for will call tickets or by contacting a member of the cast to reserve your tickets.  When reserving tickets please include the following: the number of tickets both adult and student, and the performance night.  The box office opens an hour prior to production for purchase of tickets at the door.  We accept cash, checks, and credit/debit cards.  Tickets are now on sale. This play may not be appropriate for children, parental guidance is needed. 

Synopsis: A 17-year-old boy from the Bronx, Jim Quinn, suddenly finds himself in a private school in New Hampshire.  He’s violent, gifted, alienated, and on fire with a ferocious loneliness. Two faculty members wrestle with the dilemma: Is the kid a star or a disaster? A passionate, explosive portrait of a young man on the verge of salvation or destruction. 

Razel Quintero (freshman) is Jim Quinn, the young man trying to find out who he is and what he wants. Nathan Ayala (senior) is Carl Schmitt, who owns the private school Jim is attending.  His wife, Louise Schmitt, is Jessica Angulo (junior) who sees the good in Jim.  Kyler Bennett (junior) plays Alan Hoffman, an English teacher who sees potential in Jim. Johb Silva (senior) is Austin Lord Schmitt, who is Jim’s roommate and nephew to Carl and Louise Schmitt. 

Ms. Barbara Hilt is the Director with Ms. Alice Hilt and Ms. Robyn Hilt serving as Assistant Directors.  The set, lighting and sound were designed by Barbara and Alice Hilt with the Technical Theater classes.  Costume Design student Zaza Boutdara (senior), and Ms. Robyn Hilt designed the costumes.  The Stage Manager for this production is Byrant Detvongsa (sophomore).
