Scott City cross country looking to get their teams back to state

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Both Scott City cross country teams have a little fuel to the fire heading in to the 2020 season. After a pair of fourth place finishes last year at regionals, the teams are wrapping up their first week of practice with the goal of getting back to state. Both teams were two points out of qualifying for state in 2019.

Just three seniors make up the Scott City cross country teams, with two girls and one boy. Overall, there are 26 on this years team, that returns five girls and six boys from the varsity last year. While there are very few seniors, the optimism is there from both teams to have a special season.

Individually, Jaxson Kough returns as a two-time state qualifier, placing 21st as a sophomore, while Kairae Berry, Clare Hawkins and Megan Vance helped the girls team win the 2018 state title.

Joey Meyer takes over the reigns as the head coach, replacing Kevin Reese, who stepped down in April. Alex Fox coninues as the assistant.
