Scott City visits Cimarron in final game before district play

Scott City, Kan. Wwesternkansasnews.com)—It’s week three of high school football in Kansas, and tonight, the Scott City Beavers will travel southeast to take on the Cimarron Bluejays in the final tuneup before district play for both teams.

Scott City saw their three-game win streak against Holcomb snapped last Friday night in a 30-13 setback at Holcomb to drop to 1-1 on the season. The Beavers scored on their opening drive, and led 7-6 at the break, only to see the Longhorns score 24 straight in the second half. Three Scott City turnovers turned into 14 Holcomb points, as the Longhorns would outgain the Beavers 310-302. Scott City did end up with 224 passing yards on the night. Through two games, the Beavers have allowed 15 points a game and 211 yards per game overall, while scoring 15 ponding and averaging 256 yards a contest.

Cimarron has had a rough welcome to the Great West Activities Conference, as they fell to Colby last Friday night 21-8 at Dennen Field to drop to 0-2 on the season. It was their first meeting with the Eagles. Colby jumped out to a 21-0 lead before the Bluejays scored a fourth quarter touchdown and a two point conversion. The Eagles rolled up 390 yards of offense, with 309 coming on the ground, as they limited Cimarron to just 154 yards offensively. Through two games, Cimarron is averaging 13 points and 218 yards per game, while giving up 291 yards and 25 points a game. 

This is the eighth meeting between the teams since 2010. Scott City has won the previous seven matchups. The teams last met in 2017 in Cimarron, when the Beavers picked up a 34-6 win.
