Scott City hosts Colby in a big district matchup

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)—Two GWAC foes meet up at Darner Field in Scott City tonight, as the Colby Eagles head to Scott City to face the Beavers in a big Class 3A, District 6 matchup. 

Colby enters with a 5-1 record overall, 2-1 in district play, after a 55-0 win over the Russell Broncos last Friday night at Dennen Field. The Eagles led 7-0 after the first quarter, and added three scores in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead, and 48-0 after three quarters. It was their widest margin of victory since their 2009 win over Plainville 50-0. This year’s Colby team relies on solid defense, as they’ve allowed 169 yards of offense, and nine points a contest, while averaging 25 points and 330 yards per game. Hagan Booi leads the ground attack with under 550 yards and six touchdowns, and Ryan Myers has passed for just over 500 yards and six touchdowns. 

Scott City, who enters 4-2 overall and 3-0 in district play, has won three straight after a 17-16 come from behind win over the Smoky Valley Vikings at Darner Field last Friday night. The Beavers led 7-0 at the half, and led 10-0 after three quarters, before the Vikings scored 16 unanswered to go up 16-0 with just under three minutes remaining. Scott City was able to put together an 82-yard drive to win the game with 22 seconds left. The Beavers average 19 points and around 300 yards of offense per contest, while giving up under 200 yards and 12 points a game. Jace Thomas leads the ground attack with six touchdowns and just under 500 yards this year, while Harrison King has thrown for nearly 700 yards and four touchdowns. 

Scott City leads the series 27-16, and saw their 15-game win streak against Colby snapped last year in double overtime at 28-20. The Eagles last won in Scott City in 1999 14-7.
