Lady Beaver volleyball sweeps Ulysses

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was the home opener for the Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team Tuesday night, as they played host to Ulysses in a dual format. Both teams saw shuffling in their  lineup, as Scott City was down a player, while the Lady Tigers were without their three seniors. In the end, it would be a sweep for the Lady Beavers, as they took the win 25-15, 25-20, 25-12.

Ulysses started out the hot team early on to begin, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, before Scott City answered with six of the next seven points. After it was tied at six, the Lady Beavers continued their early attack, going on a 15-4 run to lead 21-10. The Lady Tigers pulled to within 22-15, before three straight Scott City points closed out the opening set 25-15.

Scott City jumped out early 5-0 in the second set and never trailed. Ulysses would fight back, and pull to within 11-9, before a Lady Beaver rally pushed their lead to 22-12. Scott City was unable to close the set out right away, as Ulysses got to within 24-20, before the Lady Beavers picked up the final point to win 25-20 in set two.

In the third, Scott City pulled away in the middle of the set, using an 8-1 run to take a commanding 16-4 lead. The Lady Tigers did fight back, and pulled to within 17-11, before the Lady Beavers put the clamps on the set and match, closing the match out on an 8-1 run to win 25-12.

Scott City got seven kills apiece from Ella Rumford and Peyton Goodman, while Kennedy Holstein added five kills, Amber Latta had four service aces and four kills, and Alli Patton had two service aces and three kills. Rumford added two block points.

Ulysses got three kills from Bella Eddie, Chloe Curl and Cami Kenny. Mika Schultz had two kills and two block points.

Scott City is 6-2 on the season, and will be in Hill City on Thursday for a triangular with Hill City and Hoxie. Ulysses drops to 2-5, and will host Cimarron on Thursday.
