One Arrested After Stealing a Vehicle From a Garden City Dealership

September, 2nd 2021 (westernkansasnews) On September 2, 2021, at around 2:50 P.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department were dispatched to 601 W. Kansas Avenue (Burtis Motor Company) for an auto theft that had just occurred. Officers were advised that a Chevrolet Camaro was taken from inside of the body shop garage.

An officer observed the Camaro driving west in the 1000 block of W. Campbell Street, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The Camaro accelerated at a high rate of speed before coming to a stop in the 1500 block of N. Taylor Plaza. The suspect, later identified as Nelson Brian Barrientos (27), Garden City, KS, exited the vehicle and fled.

Officers located Barrientos running in the east alley of the 1500 block of N. Taylor Plaza. Barrientos refused to listen to instructions, but officers were able to take Barrientos into custody. Finney County EMS responded and treated both Barrientos and an officer for minor injuries.

Barrientos was lodged in the Finney County Jail and could face possible charges on:

  • Theft (F)
  • Interference LEO (F)
  • Possession of Stimulant and Paraphernalia
  • Criminal Damage
  • Driving While Suspended
