Ulysses, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Holcomb Longhorns started the new year strong and swept the Ulysses Tigers. The Lady Longhorns won 67-30, and the Holcomb boys won 56-35.

The Lady Longhorns started fast and led 14-0 with just over a minute to go in the first quarter. Holcomb would lead 18-2 at the end of the first quarter. Halle Jones led the Longhorns in the second quarter with nine points and Holcomb stretched the lead to 43-12 at halftime. Ulysses would go back and forth with Holcomb in the third quarter But the Longhorns led 59-27 going into the fourth quarter. With the running clock in the final frame Holcomb cruised to a 67-30 win.

Ulysses shot 10/27 from two-point, 2/6 from three-point and 4/5 from the free throw line. Ulysses had 19
rebounds, eight of those were offensive rebounds. The Tigers had 33 turnovers. They were led by Cami Kenny with six points and seven rebounds, Clarissa Sianuqui with eight points and Grace Murray with 10 points.
Holcomb shot 19/32 from two-point, 9/19 from three-point, and 2/4 from the free throw line. Holcomb had 13 rebounds, six of those were offensive rebounds. The Longhorns had 15 turnovers. They were led
by Nicole Ruda with 10 points, Halle Jones with 18 points, and Jera Kruleski with 28 points.
The Lady Longhorns moved to 3-4 on the season.

Holcomb Boys 56, Ulysses 35
The Holcomb boys started slow offensively and were only up 5-3 with three minutes to go in the first quarter. But a timeout by Coach Novack and then back to back three-pointers by Cooper Autry got the Longhorns going and they led 18-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Longhorns stretched their lead to 32-15 at halftime, but the Longhorns came out a little sloppy in the second half and could not hit some wide open shots. They would lead 46-22 after the third quarter. Even though they never really put the game away in the fourth quarter they won 56-35. Chris Palacios had seven of the 18 points off the bench.
Ulysses shot 12/30 from two-point, 2/14 from three-point, and 1/6 from the free throw line. They had 23
rebounds, five of which were offensive rebounds. The Tigers had 18 turnovers.
Ulysses was led by Khristian Jaquez with two points and seven rebounds, Alex Navarrete with six points, and Ryan Nightengale with 13 points.
Holcomb shot 16/42 from 2pt, 5/21 from 3pt and 8/23 from the freethrow line. They had 40 rebounds, 18 of which were offensive rebounds. The Longhorns had ninw turnovers. Holcomb was led by Daegan Vanpelt with seven points, Chris Palacios finished with seven points and five rebounds, Damon Mesa with 11 points, and Cooper Autry with 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Holcomb Boys moved to 6-1 on the season.
