Resurfacing underway in Gray, Meade counties

Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) –

The Kansas Department of Transportation has begun a resurfacing project along K-23 in Gray County. The project extends from the K-23/U.S. 56 junction in Gray County south to the railroad tracks in Meade County.

K-23 traffic will be reduced to one lane through the project area. Motorists should be aware of delays of up to 15 minutes as one-lane traffic will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car through the work zone. The lane reduction will be marked by signs and cones. When construction is not taking place, K-23 will be open to normal traffic.

This project consists of a 1-inch milling of existing pavement and a 1.5-inch hot mix of the asphalt overlay on driving lanes. Edge wedge with permanent pavement markings will be placed on the shoulders along the roadway near the conclusion of the project.

Venture Corporation, of Great Bend, is the contractor on this $4.3 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.
