Scott City opens season at home against Cimarron

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It’s finally here. After an offseason with changes to the offensive scheme, the Scott City Beavers will take the field at home against the Cimarron Bluejays to kick off the 2022 season on Military Appreciation Night.

Cimarron produced a 7-3 season in 2021, before bowing out to eventual Class 2A State runner-up Beloit in the Regional round of the playoffs. The Bluejays were hit heavy by graduation and return just a handful of starters. Also new for Cimarron is a head coach. Casey Flax moves up to head coach, as he replaces Mike Schartz after three seasons. A year ago, the Bluejays averaged 30.5 points a game while allowing just 17.

Scott City is coming off a 4-5 mark in 2021, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005. It was a season that saw several injuries occur, and look for a bounceback season. The Beavers installed a different offense in the offseason in hopes to increase point and yard production. They return their entire backfield, and four lineman with at least one start, and return several on the defense last year, that allowed 20 points per game, and scored just 15 points a game.

Scott City leads the series 14-7, but Cimarron has won the last two games in the series, including a 26-20 win last year in Scott City, that came down to the final seconds.

Kickoff at Darner Field is at 7 pm, with pregame beginning at 6:30 on Mix 94.5. You can also listen online at westernkansasnews.com/mix94, or on TuneIn Radio and search for KSKL.
