Hugoton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Hugoton Eagles open the season with a 49-0 home win versus the Southwestern Heights Mustangs.  The Eagles dominated defensively and had some explosive scoring plays on offense and special teams to get the win.

The Eagles offense was led by Senior fullback, Adam Mendoza, who finished the game with (unofficially) 16 carries for 138 yards and 3 TD’s.  Also scoring touchdowns were- Santiago Macias (23 yds), Issac Martin (17 yds) and two special teams scores.  Griffin Heger scored on a punt return of 65 yards in the second quarter, and Dasean Lewis returned a punt 85 yards for a TD in the 4th quarter.

The eagle defense did not give a 1st down until late in the game and dominated the line of scrimmage.  

The eagles will Host Ulysses next Friday in the Eagles Homecoming Contest.
