Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – After a disappointing matchup Saturday night in Conestoga Arena, the Broncbuster Volleyball team is looking for a big opportunity tonight.

On Saturday, Garden City was looking to pick up its 9th win at home before Colby put the brakes on the Broncbusters. The Trojans fired off early in the first two sets winning, 25-15, and 25-18. Garden City found the answer in the 3rd set with a 25-21 comeback, but Colby would seal the deal in the 4th with a 25-14 stunner on the Broncbusters.

“We had no passion, we played horrible” said Patrick Hiltz after. “We have played our 3rd game in the last 4 days and we can’t let that be an excuse.” he added. The Broncbusters dropped to 15-5 overall and now 3-2 in the KJCCC heading into Garden City’s first ranked matchup this season.

PREVIEW

The Seward County Saints come into the matchup ranked #12 in the nation, after starting the season off with a 15-4 overall record and a perfect 4-0 conference record.

Seward has been the dominant team of the conference for the past 3 seasons, all under the direction of Head Coach Geno Frugoli. Frugoli in the last three seasons with the Lady Saints, has a 60-19 overall record and a 31-5 KJCCC regular season conference record.

The Lady Saints this season have been producing the numbers, coming into the matchup 10th in the nation with Kills, and 10th in the nation with Blocks.

For Garden City, things look more favorable on paper, but as the saying goes, statistics doesn’t win games. The Broncbusters lead the conference in the Kills and sit 7th in the nation. Garden City also leads the KJCCC in Blocks with 155, putting them 4th in the NJCAA.

WHO TO WATCH

For Seward County, lookout for Sophomore Outside Hitter, Seyun Park. Park is entering her 3rd season with the Saints and has 70 matches under her belt, with a total of 623 kills, 149 of those already raining down this year. Defensively, Michell Jerez will be an issue in the back row for Garden City. The 5’7 Sophomore libero comes into tonight with 300 digs already this season. Don’t expect any bare spot kills in this game.

For Garden City, it’s hard not to look at Fiona Arnold. The Sophomore transfer out of Blinn has been on fire all season. Leading the KJCCC in kills, and currently top 10 in the nation, it’s a question as to why the German stud hasn’t gotten any recognition. Currently with 226 kills and hitting the ball at a .219%, Seward will have to defend well. Defensively, it’s no question that the block will be the key in this game. All eyes will be on Kate Perryman. After missing 6 matches this season, Perryman still leads the Broncbusters with blocks (58).
