Scott City hosts Goodland for Senior Night

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It may only be the third home game of the year for the Scott City Beavers, but it’s their regular season home finale, as the Goodland Cowboys come to Darner Field for a 7 pm kickoff in Class 3A, District 8 play.

Goodland is coming in to tonight’s contest with a 2-4 record, 1-1 in district play, after a 34-8 victory over old rival Colby last Friday night at Cowboy Stadium. The Cowboys jumped out early to a 28-0 halftime lead, thanks to a pair of pick-six’s in the first half. Goodland has matched their win total from last year, and will be entering tonight’s game with confidence, after beating state-ranked Norton two weeks ago in overtime. The Cowboys average 237 yards of offense, with 171 coming on the ground, and 19 points a contest, while allowing opponents to score an average of 29 points and 322 yards per game. Mason Hernandez lead the team in rushing and passing out of their single-wing offense.

Scott City is 5-1 overall, 2-0 in district play, after a 28-14 win over the Holcomb Longhorns last Friday night at Broncbuster Stadium. The Beavers trailed 7-6 at the break, and outscored Holcomb 22-7 in the second half in the win. Scott City rolled up a season-high 404 yards of offense, and had 243 of those on the ground. This year, the Beavers have scored 29 points and 258 yards on average through six games, while yielding 13 points and 150 yards of offense to opponents. Scott City has seen Brady Welker rush for around 600 yards and Dylan Metzger pass for over 500 yards in their first six games. They have eclipsed their win total from last season.

Scott City leads the all-time series 39-11, and have won the last 18 in the series. They defeated Goodland 21-6 last year in Goodland to open up district play. Goodland’s last win came in 2003 against the Beavers.
