Garden City High School Coaches Show 10/10

Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – It was another great night on the Garden City Coaches show as we got a chance to catch up with three sports from Buffalo Athletics.

First up it was the Garden City volleyball team as we got a chance to talk to senior, defensive specialist Taylor Mesa, and senior opposite Mackenzie Lucas. Mesa is third on the team with 206 receives and third on the team in digs with 81. Lucas has been strong this season with 103 kills, a team lead of 30 blocks, and 46 digs as well. We talk about the long season, Fun Fridays, and the schedule moving forward looking at the WAC tourney and sub-state tournament.

Second, on the show was Garden City High School Football. Coach Brian Hill and Senior DB Dakota Smith joined us to talk about the teams (5-1) start and what’s ahead with the Hatchet Game on Saturday.

Dakota Smith has 25 tackles this season and has run a team-high 1023 yards on the field tracked by GPS that relays distance and speeds to the coaching staff. This data is then used to help determine the correct usage and rest for each player.

To round out the show we talk to new girls’ basketball head coach Jacob Miller. Miller comes from Oklahoma where in Woodward he was an athletic director and before then a coach and former college basketball player. He takes on a team that is looking for a fresh start after a (3-19) season. We got a chance to talk to Miller about his coaching style and vision for the future of Garden City Girls Basketball.
