Holcomb sweeps rival Lakin

Holcomb, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Holcomb Longhorns swept the Lakin Broncs on Tuesday night at home, as the Lady Longhorns won 58-33, and the boys won 57-52.

The Lady Longhorns jumped out to a 14-4 lead after one quarter. Holcomb continued to control the game and led 31-15 at halftime. Halle Jones had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the first half. Holcomb would be up 44-23 at the end of the third quarter. The Longhorns would cruise down the stretch and win 58-33 over Lakin.

Lakin shot 3-14 from three-point, 10-35 from inside, and 4-6 from the free throw line. They had 32 rebounds, 10 of those were offensive boards. The Lady Broncs had 26 turnovers.

Lakin was led by Jordan McCombs with six points, and Jara Davidson with seven points and six rebounds.

Holcomb shot 8-26 from three-point, 12-33 from inside, and 10-16 from the free throw line. They had 32 rebounds, 12 of those were offensive boards. The Lady Longhorns had 16 turnovers.

Holcomb was led by Jera Kruleski with 10 points, Bella Galliart with 12 points and four rebounds, and Halle Jones with 19 points and 16 rebounds for a double double, her third straight, and fifth on the season.

Holcomb moves to 6-2 on the season.

The Longhorns started slow and were down 12-6 with 2:30 left in the first quarter. Holcomb closed the quarter strong on a 7-0 run to be up 13-12 to start the second quarter. Both teams went back and forth and the Longhorns had a one point lead at halftime 27-26. The third quarter continued to be tight and Holcomb stretched their lead to 42-39 to start the fourth quarter. Holcomb stretched it to 55-47 with three minutes to go in the game, but missed shots by Holcomb and made buckets by Lakin and the lead was down to three points at 55-52 with 1:30 left in the game. The Longhorns hung on and won 57-52 over Lakin.

Lakin shot 6-14 from three-point, 12-39 from inside, and 7-12 from the free throw line. They had 18 rebounds, four of those were offensive boards. The Broncs had seven turnovers.

Lakin was led by Colter Oldham with 10 points, and Adrik Gomez-Esquibel with 15 points.

Holcomb shot 3-12 from three-point, 16-29 from inside, and 14-19 from the free throw line. They had 30 rebounds, eight of those were offensive boards. The Longhorns had 13 turnovers.

Holcomb was led by Korbin Johnson with seven points, Dalton Long with eight points, Chris Palacios with eight points and eight rebounds, and Drayton Knoll with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Holcomb Moves to 6-2 on the season.

Next up for the Holcomb Longhorns is a doubleheader at Scott City on Friday.
