AMARILLO–Amarillo erupted for 10 goals in the second half and cruised to a 13-4 victory over Kansas Saturday at the Amarillo Civic Center.

Kansas traded goals with Amarillo in the first half and played to a 3-3 tie going into the break, with coach Isaias De La Torre opening the scoring for the Bandits on his first goal of the season. Antonio De La Torre and Oscar Pinto scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter to even the match at halftime.

Things started to go south just 30 seconds into the second half when Alan Valenzuela scored for Amarillo to regain the lead, and the Bombers never trailed again. They would go on to score nine consecutive times before Dodge City High School senior Irwin Macias netted a goal with just 19 seconds remaining in the match.

Valenzuela had a hat trick for the Bombers and David Trevizo notched a brace.

Amarillo outshot Kansas 49-36 overall in the match, and the Bandits were held to just 12 shots in the second half.

The Bandits fall to 1-4 and return to action Saturday, Feb. 11 when they travel to New Mexico. Kickoff is slated for 6:05 p.m. CT.
