DODGE CITY–No. 13 Dodge City used hot outside shooting and a fast pace to race past Seward County 78-65, while the 12th-ranked Conq women started fast and never looked back, avenging their only conference loss against the Saints 75-64 in a doubleheader Saturday at the Student Activity Center.

In the men’s game, both teams shot below 40% from the field, but distance shooting is what made the difference for the Conqs. They tied a season high with 12 3-pointers despite shooting only eight free throws in the contest.

Jason Edwards, one of the top 20 scorers in the nation, paved the way for the Conqs again with 21 points. Shawn Warrior chipped in a season-best 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added seven rebounds and four assists. Jacobi Sebock narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

The No. 13 Conquistadors improve to 15-6 (11-4 KJCCC) with the loss and return to action Wednesday when they travel to Northwest Kansas Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.

In the women’s game, Dodge City began the game on a 22-6 run and held the Saints to a paltry 1-for-13 from the floor in the first quarter. That was all they’d need to keep Seward at arm’s length for the rest of the contest.

Five Conqs scored in double figures, including both Paris Santacaterina and Shakara Anderson off the bench. Leah Mafua paced the rest of the pack with a team-high 17 points.

The second half proved to be a slow, choppy game, and the two squads combined to shoot 76 free throws.

The No. 12 Conquistadors improve to 19-2 (14-1 KJCCC) with the win and return to action Wednesday when they travel to Northwest Kansas Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
