Garden City knocked out Colby for their 4th conference win of the year in Conestoga Arena. The Broncbusters led tape to tape en route to their first win in the year 2023 and snapping a 7-game losing streak.

While Colby was much better in this matchup than the first time after Garden City was leading 23-0 in the first quarter of the last matchup. Garden City still knocked out the Trojans who were even more shorthanded than the Broncbusters entering the matchup with only 8 available players. This affected Colby in the final 2 minutes of the game as they had their 3rd foul out of the night and had to finish the game with 4 players.

4 Broncbuster were in double figures, led by Dayshawna Carter with 19 points and Ariyah Brooks with 15 points and 11 rebounds. That was the first double-double of the season for Brooks who has carved out. a nice role in the starting lineup since the Broncbusters lost J’Mya Lyons for the season (16 ppg 13 RPG) at the end of the first semester.

“You can never take a game for granted in this conference and we are happy to get a win but we are still far away from playing the best basketball that this team is capable of,” coach Antwain Scales finished the postgame show after the win.

With the losing streak snapped Garden City will now face the number one team in the conference at Dodge City at 2 pm on Saturday.

Buru Naivalurua had his 5th straight double-double and Jaborri McGhee had a game-high 26 points. Garden City’s high level of passing was on display as the team had 19 assists in the game.

The win marked the 7th in their last 10 games and now sets up a big matchup with Dodge City on Saturday in a battle of two top-four teams in the Jayhawk Conference.

“We aren’t where we need to be to win a game like we will need to have on Saturday, but I’m happy to get a win now we need to get back in the gym and get to work,” said coach Rusty Elmore after the game.

The Broncbusters face the top team in the conference Dodge City on Saturday at 4pm after falling by eight points in the first matchup between the two teams. You can hear the game on 99.9 The Rock.
