Garden City fell to 1-9 in their first 10 games of 2023, all of those falling within the conference slate as injuries have piled up and so have the losses. The efforts have gotten closer though for the Broncbusters as they are still trying to find the best version possible of their current team.

Garden City saw threes players score double figures led by Demi Black who scored 25 points matching her career and added 14 rebounds for her 2nd double-double of the season. The Busters also had 12 points from Taya Davis and 11 from Dayshawna Carter.

Where Garden City lacked was in the controllable aspects of the game. At the free throw line, the Busters struggled all night long shooting 19-36 leaving the door shut on any comeback attempt. For the Saints, they were led by D’arrah Allen’s 34 points which is a new career high for her and she simply didn’t miss often keeping the Saints out in front of Garden City.

The one bright spot is Garden City was able to score their most points in a conference game at 71 despite it coming in a losing effort. They face off against Northwest Kansas Technical College on Saturday at 2 pm. The Mavs are one of Garden City’s four conference wins this season.

It was showtime for Garden City all night long in their largest conference win by a margin of the year. From start to finish the Busters dominated the Saints leading 11-2 through the first 5 minutes and a lead that would be by as many as 37 late in the second half.

It was new faces and old getting in on the action as 8 total Broncbuster recorded a basket and combined for 31 total makes with 26 being assisted. David Elliot was fantastic as Garden City’s point guard with 16 points and 10 assists for his second double-double this season with assists.

“We were right where we wanted to be offense defense, everything was firing for us tonight,” said coach Rusty Elmore after Garden City’s 11th conference win and 2nd over the Saints.

Another big story was the big-time tandem of Buru Naivalurua and Larry Olayinka who were often soaring for slams the entire night as Garden City’s offense was red hot from the jump.

All in all 5 Bronbusters finished in double figures lead but Elliot’s 16 and Olayinka’s 16 points. The Broncbusters shot 54% as a team and 45% from beyond the arc.

Garden City hits the road for an upcoming matchup with Northwest Kansas Technical College that starts three straight games on the road. You can listen to the game on 99.9 The Rock with tipoff scheduled for 4 pm from Goodland, Kansas.
