Holcomb girls knocked out of sub-state by Goodland

Lakin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Holcomb Lady Longhorns fell in round two of sub-state to the Goodland Cowgirls 56-20 Thursday night at Lakin Middle School.

Goodland jumped out to a 9-0 lead with 5:45 left in the first quarter. Halle Jones would score four points to finish the quarter for Holcomb and the Lady Longhorns would be down 11-4 to end the first quarter. Holcomb would cut the lead to six points at 14-8 with seven minutes to go in the second quarter, but Goodland would crank up the pressure and push the lead to 28-11 at halftime. The Lady Longhorns came out of halftime with strong defense but could not cut into the lead and would be down 30-13 with 5:15 to go in the third quarter. Again Goodland would get things going and be up 44-16 going into the fourth quarter. The Cowgirls cruised in the final frame and beat the Lady Longhorns 56-20.

Goodland shot 6-17 from three point, and 14-28 from inside, and 6-11 from the free throw line. The Cowgirls had 26 rebounds, 11 of those were offensive boards. They had 14 turnovers.

Goodland was led by Jaxi Mitchek with seven points and six rebounds, Olivia Lehman with seven points, and Talexa Weeter with 23 points, with three, threes.

Holcomb shot 2-18 from three-point, 4-12 from inside and 6-8 from the free throw line. The Lady Longhorns had 21 rebounds, nine of those were offensive boards. They had 25 turnovers.

Holcomb was led by Jera Kruleski with five points, and Halle Jones with 11 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Longhorns finish the season at 13-9.
