Scott City baseball sweeps Lakin

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Beaver baseball team returned to the diamond for the first time in a week, as they played host to the Lakin Broncs Thursday afternoon at the Scott Recreation Complex. It would be a dominating sweep for the Beavers, as they would take a pair of run-rule victories, winning 17-0 and 17-2 to remain unbeaten.

Scott City 17, Lakin 0, Game 1 (2 1/2 Inn.)
It would be a day where the Beavers would have a businesses-like approach to the day. Despite the Broncs having a baserunner in each inning, Scott City was able to keep them off the board. The Beavers plated six runs in the first inning, and blew the doors open with an 11-run second inning. Lakin had a chance to score in the top of the third inning. They had the bases loaded with one out, but a fielders choice and a runner interference call wiped out their chance for a run.

Eloy Ruelas had three hits and four RBI in the opener, while Lawson Bailey drove in three runs. The Beavers finished with 12 hits. Brady Welker scattered four hits with three strikeouts in three innings of work for the win. Lakin had four different players collect one hit. Edan White took the loss, going 1 1/3 innings, allowing 11 runs, nine earned on eight hits.

Scott City 17, Lakin 2, Game 2 (4 Inn.)
The Beavers would pick up from where they left off from game one. They scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, as they sent nine to bat in the opening inning. Lakin responded with a run in the second, only to see the Beavers answer back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. After a Bronc run in the third to make it 6-2, Scott City blew the game open with seven runs, and added four runs in the fourth inning to win by run rule 17-2.

Eloy Ruelas drove in five runs, while Brady Welker had a four-hit game and had four RBI, as Scott City collected 11 hits in the game. JP Harris struck out 10 batters in four innings, and gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits. Lakin saw Gabe Cox record two hits in the game. Armando Saucedo took the loss, giving up nine runs, seven earned, on six hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
