Garden City introduces Franklin as women’s basketball coach

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Garden City Community College Women’s Baskeball program has had recent success in the rigorous Jayhawk Conference over time. Finding someone to take over the program who has been a winner in a tough conference can often be a challenge.

The Lady Broncbuster program couldn’t have asked for a better hire, as Greg Franklin was formally introduced as its head coach on Thursday, in front of board of trustees and athletic staff members inside the Hall of Fame Room at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex.

Franklin has had success in the junior college ranks, where he spent 11 years at Chipola College in Florida. In his tenure, he amassed a record of 258-74, taking Chipola to the NJCAA National Tournament six times, including winning the 2015 national championship. Over his coaching career, he has won over 400 games, and had a 154-25 record at Southern Illinois College in five seasons, that included a fourth place finish in the 2007 NJCAA National Tournament.

Franklin replaces Antwain Scales, who accepted an assistant coaching job at Wichita State in April.
