Dodge City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-No matter the sport, there’s never any extra motivation needed when it comes to Dodge City and Garden City. So when the two teams took the field on a windy Thursday afternoon at Memorial Stadium, it was only fitting that both squads were fighting for positioning in the Western Athletic Conference.

In the end, it was the Lady Demons squeaking out a 2-1 win over their arch rivals.

“It was a tough day with the wind,” Dodge City Coach Charles Johnson said afterwards. “But we played pretty well with that in mind.”

It wasn’t all roses for the Demons who fell behind early when Maria Rodriguez scored in the 10th minute. But then the winds changed; literally.

With it at their backs in the second half, the Lady Demons took advantage-tying the game on Tamela Rosales’s free kick in the 43rd minute. She would score again 16 minutes later on a corner.

“There’s some things we need to work on the rest of the week in practice,” Buffaloes Coach Josue Negron said. “Moving the ball diagonally.”

The loss dropped Garden City to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the WAC.
