City and Church Settle Lawsuit Over Right to Worship at Current Building

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Two important developments from Wednesday’s Garden City Commission meeting. The dispute between Mount Zion Church of God in Christ and the city on violation of the ordinance against churches being located downtown has been settled out of court.

Parishioners will be able to continue worshiping at their building 606 N. Main Street. In exchange for dropping the church’s lawsuit, members can not object to any other businesses that could eventually locate within 200 feet of their property.

The city also approved a serial malt beverage license to allow alcohol be sold on the grounds at Clint Lightner Field during the baseball games of the new Garden City Wind. The team will begin play this summer as part of the eight team Pecos League.
