Peggy A. Melcum, 88, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. 

She was born May 23, 1926 on the family farm in Haskell County, the daughter of Gilbert Nicholas and Myrtle Ruby (DeFreese) Yount. She graduated from Sublette High School and attended Garden City Community College. She was involved in banking for many years working at Haskell County State Bank, Garden National Bank and Plains State Bank. She had been a Dodge City resident since 2000, moving from Sun City, Arizona. 

She was a member of the First Christian Church and Senior Center both in Dodge City. She was also a Life Member of the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas, Haskell County Historical Society and Distinguished Life Member of the NRA. 

On April 21, 1946 she married John L. Melcum at Garden City. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2002. 

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Paula Wike and husband Robert, Glendale, Arizona and Carla Bailey and husband Ken, Dodge City; 3 grandchildren, Chad Sneath and wife Leesa, Cara Stortini and husband Brock and Mandi McMillen and husband Brad; 6 great grandchildren, Colton Sneath, Chalee Sneath, Deven McMillen, Ashley McMillen, Dominic Stortini and Anthony Stortini; several step-grandchildren; and a nephew, Mike Kellett. 

She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Janice Yount and Betty Kellett. 

Memorial service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Dr. Phil Scott officiating. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Wednesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Private family inurnment will be in the Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ford County Humane Society in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
